Intercel Group

Software Engineer – Battery & Energy Storage Systems

As a Software Engineer at Intercel, you will work on bespoke industrial battery packs and energy storage systems (ESS).

You will develop, integrate and optimise software that is directly reflected in operational systems at our clients’ sites.

You will be part of our engineering team and work closely with a junior software engineer. You enjoy providing guidance, sharing knowledge and taking responsibility for the end result. You will allocate tasks, discuss technical choices and review each other’s solutions. You will be given a great deal of autonomy. In this role, you will constantly move between software, hardware and practical application: from gathering requirements to testing on real battery systems and the controlled release of improvements.

The focus is on an engineer-to-order environment in which small, targeted software adjustments and customer-focused iterations are central. You quickly understand what is needed, make clear-cut decisions and deploy software safely and reliably.

What will you be doing?

  • Integrating, configuring and optimising software in industrial battery packs and Energy Storage Systems
  • Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders such as engineering, service, production, suppliers and customers
  • Implementing and managing communication via CAN bus and Modbus, amongst others
  • Developing and improving diagnostic, service and control software
  • Practical validation and debugging of software on battery systems
  • Developing web-based configuration and commissioning interfaces and dashboards
  • Setting up automated test protocols and contributing to release management
  • Integrating IoT and telemetry solutions for monitoring and performance
  • Contributing to cybersecurity improvements within our systems
  • Managing the backlog, roadmap, version control and software releases.

What do we offer you?

  • The chance to work on innovative battery and energy storage systems that make a direct impact
  • A competitive salary ranging from €3,968 to €5,668 gross per month based on a full-time working week
  • Attractive fringe benefits, such as a good pension, 24 days’ holiday supplemented by 5 ATV days, free participation in weekly bootcamps and a fun Friday get-together every week
  • A great deal of technical freedom and responsibility within an experienced engineering team
  • An informal, engaged working environment with short lines of communication
  • Opportunities for further technical development in an innovative and growing market.

What do you bring to the table?

  • Higher vocational education (HBO) level of working and thinking in Software Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, Electrical Engineering or similar
  • At least 5 years’ experience in software development in a technical/industrial environment
  • CAN bus and Modbus protocols and development based on C and Linux
  • Web-based configuration, interfaces or dashboarding where version control and release management are central
  • It is an advantage if you have (basic) knowledge of cybersecurity within IoT or industrial environments and experience with C# for tooling or diagnostic applications
  • The ability to independently tackle an issue from initial enquiry through to a tested release
  • An affinity with hardware, systems and practical feasibility.
